Trump made an announcement post to his social media platform, Truth Social, nominating PayPal cofounder Ken Howery as his choice for U.S. Ambassador to Denmark.
Towards the end of the post, Trump renewed his interest in acquiring Greenland, "reigniting his old position." For background, in 2019, President Trump said the United States should purchase Greenland, but this was rejected by the island and Denmark.
Trump's Truth Social post read: "I am pleased to announce Ken Howery as my choice for United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. Ken is a World renowned entrepreneur, investor, and public servant, who served our Nation brilliantly during my First Term as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, where he led efforts to increase Defense, Security, and Economic Cooperation between our Countries."
He continued, "As a Co-Founder of PayPal and venture capital fund, Founders Fund, Ken turned American Innovation and Tech leadership into Global success stories, and that experience will be invaluable in representing us abroad."
"For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Ken will do a wonderful job in representing the interests of the United States. Thank you Ken, and congratulations!"
Trump's comments about Greenland came quickly after he stated that the United States aims to re-take the Panama Canal, and that former President Jimmy Carter was "stupid" for giving it up.

During his speech at Turning Point USA's America Fest 2024 in Phoenix, President Trump said that 72% of all transits via the canal are going to or from U.S. ports.
Trump said, "38,000 American men died of infection from mosquitoes during the construction of the Panama Canal. Jimmy Carter foolishly gave the canal away."
"This complete rip off of our country will immediately stop. We have a secure interest in the Panama Canal. We would never have done it if we knew what was happening could happen now… it was not given of the benefit of others, it was given to the people of Panama, but with provisions. If these are not respected, we will demand that the canal be given back to the U.S. without question."

The rapidly developing propositions for international acquisitions and partnerships highlights Trump's innate ability to shift the dynamics of the world stage prior to even returning to the White House, as dozens of world leaders and key players have come forward to meet with the President at his Mar-A-Lago estate.
