AUDIO: Heavy Drone Presence Leads to Air Space Closure At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

On Sunday evening, an audio clip went viral of an exchange at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio that allegedly occurred on Friday night.

The audio of the communication between towers was audible as follows:

"Use extreme caution for heavy UAS movement on the base. Security forces are handling the situation."

"...I gotta keep the lights down so that the security forces can see."

"Roger that, no problem."

"Position approved, Sir."

"Med Flight 8 tower... hey, Sir, you're still approved to request Delta, after you leave, Columbus is going to sterilize the Class Delta after you leave as of 0330 Zulu... Patterson Class Delta is closed after your transition."

"I'm sorry about that, you got stepped on by other traffic, can you say that again?"

"Yes, Sir, your transition is still approved, however, Patterson Class Delta is sterilized via 0330 Zulu for heavy unknown UAS activity. Security forces are handling it and Columbus is going to sterilize the air space after you leave delta.

"Roger that, no problem, thank you."

"All aircraft... use extreme caution, Patterson Class Delta is now closed for heavy UAS activity.

Howard Altman of The War Zone reported on the matter.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base spokesman Bob Purtiman said, "I can confirm small aerial systems were spotted over Wright Patterson between Friday night and Saturday morning."

Purtiman continued, "Today leaders have determined that they did not impact base residents, facilities, or assets. The Air Force is taking all appropriate measures to safeguard our installations and residents."

The incident at Wright-Patterson follows the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security releasing a joint statement on the recened heightened drone activity that has mainly occurred in the New York Tri-State Area.

Their joint statement claimed that there is no evidence the drones pose a threat to national security or public safety.
